Bio Gel vs Acrylic vs Gel-X: How to Choose Your Enhancement

Enhancements are where the menu gets technical, and where a little translation goes a long way. Acrylic, UV gel, Bio Gel, Gel-X and dipping powder are all ways of building a stronger, longer or more evenly shaped nail — they simply get there differently. If you have ever stood at the counter unsure which one to ask for, this is the short version we would give you in person.

Acrylic / UV

Our Acrylic / UV Full Set ($55+) is a full enhancement set designed to add length, structure and a defined shape. It is the most familiar system to most clients and the most flexible for sculpting a specific silhouette — a sharp square, a long coffin, a true stiletto point.

Bio Gel

The Bio Gel Full Set ($65+) is a gel enhancement designed to create added structure and/or length with a smooth finished appearance. If what you want is a natural-looking nail that simply behaves better than your own — even, unbroken, quietly strong — this is usually the conversation we end up having. There is also a Bio Gel Overlay ($60), which applies Bio Gel over the natural nails for reinforcement without a traditional extension.

Gel-X

The Gel-X Full Set ($65+) is a full-cover soft-gel extension system used to create added length and a consistent shape. Because the extension arrives as a pre-formed tip that covers the whole nail, Gel-X is very good at symmetry: ten nails that match each other closely, in a shape chosen from a size range rather than sculpted by hand.

Dipping

The Dipping Overlay ($55+) is a strengthening overlay using dipping powder over the natural nail. Like the Bio Gel Overlay, it is about reinforcement rather than length — a good answer when your own nails are the length you want but keep letting you down.

Overlay, full set or refill?

• Overlay: a protective layer applied over your natural nail. Choose it when you like your current length and want strength, not extension.
• Full set: a new enhancement built on all ten nails. Choose it for length, a new shape, or a fresh start after a previous set is removed.
• Refill: maintenance on an existing set. The grown-out area is refreshed and the shape restored, so the set carries on rather than starting again.

Length is a decision. Structure is a habit. Most people who think they want length actually want structure.

Who each one suits

If you type all day, lift weights, work with your hands or have a toddler in the house, a shorter overlay is far more comfortable than a long full set — and Bio Gel Overlay or Dipping Overlay give you that reinforcement without the adjustment period. If you have a specific dramatic shape in mind, or you want length that your natural nail could never reach, acrylic and UV give the most sculptural control. If you love an immaculate, matched, uniform set and would rather not think about it, Gel-X tends to make people very happy.

There is also the nail-art question. The long neutral sets with 3D flowers, lace detail and gold beads that we photograph most often are built on an enhancement, because the extra surface gives the art somewhere to live. Design starts at $10+ and the final price depends on complexity, so it is worth mentioning your idea when you book.

Prices marked with a plus are starting prices: the final cost depends on length, shape and design. That is not a hedge, it is arithmetic — a short natural almond and a long decorated coffin are not the same amount of work.
